Textem is a lightweight, native macOS client for Google Messages for web — free and open-source. It hosts the Messages web client in a WKWebView and wraps it in real Mac chrome: a dock unread badge, native notifications, menu-bar presence, launch-at-login, and zoom.
A native alternative to the paid Texty and the unmaintained Electron android-messages-desktop — Swift 6, AppKit, and system WebKit, so it's a few megabytes instead of a bundled Chromium. Pair once and stay paired across relaunches.
